Pennsylvania family finds manure-tainted water from faucets

FULTON COUNTY, PA — One family in this rural south-central Pennsylvania county is frustrated not only by the brown-tinged, manure-smelling water flowing from their faucets, but also by the slow response their calls to the state have received.

The Clevengers first noticed the brown, manure-smelling water in the early-morning hours of October 5. Their son, Bill Clevenger, told the Public Opinion that within an hour of the time his parents first noticed the problem, he placed a call to the county soil conservation district, which fields local manure spill and soil erosion reports for the state Department of Environmental Protection (DEP).
