DEL RIO, TX - Some health care professionals and members of the community are asking city leaders to reverse an earlier decision to discontinue fluoridation of Del Rio's water supply, according to a recent report in Del Rio News-Herald.

Newsweek examines ‘emerging contaminants’ NEW YORK — The June 4 issue of Newsweek tackles the subject of how compounds known as “emerging contaminants,” such as pharmaceuticals, cosmetics and antibacterial soaps, are impacting drinking water supplies nationwide. In the article, author Anne Underwood notes how new technology is making it possible for scientists to screen for traces of compounds at levels that were previously undetectable — and that scientists are finding traces of just about everything for which they are looking. Scientists are concerned with endocrine disruptors, chemical compounds that mimic hormones when they enter the body, the article said. Chromium leak from factory near public wells near Great Bend Kansas

GREAT BEND, KS — Chemicals are getting close to public water wells here after they leaked through a nearby factory’s ventilation system, a September 20 KWCH story reported. The Plating Inc. plant ran for 20 years and has now been closed for a month. Dan Wells of the Kansas Department of Health and Environment said chromium vapors came out of its ventilation pipe and got into the soil.
